Nature-based Wilderness Education

I began interning for Cayuga Nature Center (a nature education organization in Ithaca, NY) at the end of my sophomore year of college.  Since then I have worked on outdoor programming for children of all ages ranging in topics from wild foraging, plant and tree identification, maple sugaring, archaeology, Native American studies, water ecology, and tracking.  Through working at Cayuga Nature Center I have had the opportunity to understand the workings of a tight-budged non-profit educational organization.

After graduation I am doing the Wilderness Skills Instructor Course with Primitive Pursuits – a wilderness skills and nature-based survival skills educational organization – and I will be working with them throughout the summer as a Wilderness Educator.  I believe in children developing a nature-based connection to aid in their personal development/growth and general education.  I consider myself a constant, humble learner where I intend to continue learning about the workings of the natural world for the rest of my life.
